How old is your health insurance?

YOUR HEALTH INSURANCE

Have you had your medical insurance plans for more years than you can count? Unlike fine wine, health insurance policies do not necessarily improve with age.

Recently a gentleman who had the same medical insurance policy for "the past 20 some years," in his words, came in to the office.

The premium he is paying simply astounded me. While many people complain that their employer is changing their health insurance coverage each year, that is often a far better scenario than simply paying the bill and not paying attention to it.

The health insurance industry is extremely tumultuous. The savvy consumer, whether an employer insuring his staff, or an individual needing coverage for the family, takes the time to reevaluate health insurance plans each year. If you have had your same insurance plan for more than three years, and have not called your agent to inquire if what you have is still the best company, and product, to meet your needs, you may be throwing money away.

Making medical examination a must for insurance purposes

Sunday, October 25, 2009 kareljones 0 comments

KUALA LUMPUR: The Government has proposed to Bank Negara that medical examinations be made mandatory for those intending to purchase personal, life or personal medical insurance plans, Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk T. Murugiah said on Thursday.

The proposal was made following numerous complaints of the non-payment of medical bills by insurance companies, he said.

“On average the Public Complaints Bureau receives about three to four complaints every month on such issues,” he said.

At present there were companies that did not require a medical examination when insurance is purchased, he said.

However, problems arose when claims were made and insurance companies refused to pay because the insured did not undergo a proper medical examination prior to purchasing the policy.

He added that investigations showed that some errant agents were responsible for this problem as “in their zeal to sell policies, they overlook the need for a medical examination prior to sealing the deal.”

Murugiah hoped insurance companies would provide proper training and keep a close tab of their agents to avoid such problems in the future. -- Bernama

Personal Dental Insurance Plans

What's the best idea you could ever think of? Do you want us to suggest a new one for you? What do you think of personal dental insurance? Well, lately a lot of people have been saying that this is a very good idea.

Before you jump into the bandwagon, you must know how it works. You should also check whether this plan is just for you, or it's something that you and your family can benefit from.

It is a contract that binds the seller and the buyer together. The seller agreed to buy a percentage of the buyer's dental expenses.

In layman's terms, if you do choose to go through any kind of dental procedure, the cost will be covered by the insurance company.

This is the very reason why more and more people are opting for personal dental insurance. The medical procedures in the country have increased. If an operation has to be done, it can destroy a budget that has already been planned.

If you're wondering why dental procedures cost so much, well, just think about the years he spent perfecting his abilities and the price he had to pay for his machinery.

Since you cannot decrease the rate of dental fees, what you can do is just get a personal dental insurance plan that will help you lessen the price you have to pay as part of your personal medical insurance. Do you know that more than half of Americans doesn't have dental plans?

This is according to the American Dental Association. It's time that they do. Teeth shouldn't be taken for granted.

What Obama Should Say About Health Care

Tuesday, September 22, 2009 kareljones 0 comments

(The Nation) President Obama did all the Sunday morning talk shows, as part of a ramped-up campaign to promote his sincere if ill-defined belief that health care should be reformed, and he continued to argue, albeit tepidly, that this reform probably needs to include a public option.

Obama was smooth and smart and presidential and the appearances on ABC's "This Week," CBS's "Face the Nation," CNN's "State of the Union" and on the Spanish-language Univision network will undoubtedly aid his personal approval ratings.

But these exercises in pulled punches and anti-government apologia will do little to advance the cause of genuine health care reform.

Indeed, as Obama describes his notion of a public option, it is so constrained, under-funded and uninspired in approach as to be dysfunctional.

The Importance of Personal Medical Insurance

Tuesday, August 11, 2009 kareljones 0 comments

By Koh YS

A medical policy is an essential product to be considered in managing risk in lives. Anyone can be a victim of critical illness/dread disease and it can happen at the most unexpected time and the person can be in deep trouble, not knowing what to do and whether something can be done about it and if so, how much it will cost.

More and more people are seeking treatment and care from private hospitals and the rising medical expenses is of utmost concern to these patients and their families. It is a known fact that hospitalization and surgical costs have risen tremendously throughout the years. Medicare costs do not only involve medication but also a host of other related services/equipment such as surgery, diagnostic tests, physiotherapy, purchase or rental of medical equipment, ambulance services etc.

These can exhaust a person’s savings or retirement fund in no time at all, depending on how costly it is for that particular need. It is well beyond many people to obtain a large sum of money for surgery, hospitalization and medical attention, of which they might resort to “charity” that could be the most uncomfortable and undignified way. Therefore, it is of utmost concern for every one to realize the importance of medical insurance not only to assume their risk and to protect them against financial burden and even poverty, but to also preserve and maintain their current lifestyle.
